If you are a fan of Emily in Paris Netflix series, The Fabulous is a must-watch. The fabulous is a fantastic, short, limited-time series on Netflix under the Korean drama category. The scenic beauty of Korea, the modern skyline, trendy fashion and the museums make the perfect backdrop for drama. It gives us a short tour of the fashion industry in Korea by taking us into the lives of a circle of four friends who have different jobs.
Plot essence
The main character Ji-eun works as a PR for fashion brands in a marketing agency Audrey, which kind of reminds us of Emily working at Savoir but it is our take on it, the series and the characters are not the same, the storyline is completely different and original. Ji-eun is still friends with her ex-boyfriend Woo-min who is in love with her and works as a fashion photographer. The story is all about their once again blooming love for each other. The other friends are Seon-ho who is a top fashion model fighting for her way in a modelling career as well as relationships and Joseph an amazingly talented budding designer with very big aspirations. We get to see a very beautiful bond between Joseph and her manager cum friend Esther who is not a part of the close friend’s circle but is very supportive along Joseph’s mom.
The fabulous too follows the theme where there is a caring second lead for the main girl and she has to decide between the two lovers. We are talking about another character Lee Nam-Jin who is a rich kind CEO of a big fashion brand. He comes into her life after a few years of her breakup with Woo min and they start dating. Being in the same industry everybody’s paths keep crossing and with each passing day, she realises her true love for Woo-min and he tries his best to make Ji-eun come back and restart their young college romance where they left it.
Characters like Joseph and Thierry Henri add more fresh layers to the drama. They both are funny, comical, gay and talented designers. Joseph is a part of the friend circle and shares a great bond with his friends who keep supporting him in his journey to launch his brand. The arrival of Thierry, a big international designer to Korea gives each of them a big break in their careers, especially Joseph.
Other characters like a young boy Do-young trying to enter the modelling world, Ms Ahn who is a critic in the fashion world or Cheongdam circle as they call it, Ms Hong the celebrity stylist of J.D( a popular celebrity who is the apple of the eye of all the fashion brands) and Audrey’s manager Ms Oh managing the fashion brands marketing and planning events along the influencers, blend the different shades in the story and introduce us to the other careers and their perspective in the fashion industry. The characters are brilliantly written with a little struggle of their own and to find out more one has to binge-watch the sweet and short 8 episodes of the drama.
